Five interns are working with the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems this summer to assist with several of the agency’s projects to advance space exploration.
Projects involve planetary analogue test site surveys, robotics and building a 10-meter lunar landing pad with volcanic basalt. The interns started Monday and will work with PISCES for 10 weeks.
PISCES, based in Hilo, said it also is launching a cooperative education program with the University of Hawaii at Hilo that will begin in the fall.
Students in computer science, engineering and physics and astronomy fields will be eligible for full-time paid work in an alternating semester-on/semester-off cycle.
